I woke up in the middle of night after dreams of Sarah Palin, andrealized that in my subconscious I had placed her into a photo essay Iran years ago as a photo editor at nerve. She was a beauty queen in thePrisoner Pageant in Bogota, and she was glorious. So now I will share some of these with you. They’re by Fabio Cuttica, and are licensed through Redux; see the complete essay here.

The DL:

“Each September, the female inmates of the Good Shepherd Prison inBogota participate in a beauty pageant in honor of the Virgin ofMercedes, patron saint of prisoners. Good Shepherd is the largestfemale prison with over 1,000 inmates. The annual contest reflects thenear obsession with beauty pageants and contests in Colombia, wheretelevised competitions draw enormous ratings.”
