The New York Times Magazine food issue had plenty of fun this weekend; Looks like photo editor Kathy Ryan gave photographer Martin Klimas a 22-caliber rifle and told him to embrace his anger. He decimated an ear of corn, an apple and a pumpkin so thoroughly that the editors could not decide on a favorite.
Thus, the press run was trisected, and three covers ran. It was apparently random which one you got. My household was lucky enough this weekend to pick up two copies of the Times. So we got apple and corn. Corn was totally awesomer.

Did anyone get pumpkin?
In any case, I’m a sucker for explosions, especially in a still-life setting, so I was pleased to see on Klimas‘ site that he also blows up flower vases. He freezes the action just before the flowers (presumably) fall from their perch, insulted by a projectile.

Which is a better concept– flowers cut down by bullets, or flowers on fire? My polling finds them even. Here’s a beauty by Steve Cohen:

Check out the story behind the fire back at my old stomping ground.
Also, see more of Klimas’ work. There are some awesome birds. Though they are neither on fire nor dead from a bullet.

Sorry, Sarah.

I definitely vote bullets over fire. More immediate impact. JMHO.
I got pumpkin, and was disappointed. I’d trade it in for a corn any day …
Hah, so random, it never gets old though: http://www.ryanschude.com/blog/?p=9
This guy also does explodo-food/flowers and non-exploding birds: Andrew Zuckerman. http://www.thefstopmag.com/?p=309
I want to see someone do sandwiches!
We got the Pumpkin version at our house and I thought it was pretty Awesome!
It actually has a really weird ceramic look to it. Kinda like a clay model. Having now seen all of them together it looks like Corn may be The One.
