There’s a new machine on the market that will make you into an instant Laforet (not really. it’s hard to be that awesome), and it makes me uneasy. It’s called tilt-shift maker and this is what it does:

Whoa, my little divers turned into littler doll-like divers! I want to do another!

Hmm, that one didn’t work as well. I should do another.

See? It’s addictive. This is a gateway drug to other, more dangerous Photoshop narcotics. Like Gaussian Blur. Shiver.
Be very careful, friends.
Read former, dorkier posts of mine on tilt-shift and other photo manipulation here and here.

Yeah well, even if you pull off the look in photoshop, it’s still not as good as the real thing
As as photographer, it would never satisfy me, personally.
It’s not that I oppose processing, but that kind of processing just makes me feel uneasy. I don’t know, maybe there’s a journalist part in me that doesn’t agree. Or maybe it’s just too much bad photoshopping examples of this effect I’ve seen in the past. Or maybe I don’t really like the tilt shift effect very much at all, because it looks so fake.
Okay I’m rambling, signing off now.
I’d love to see some really wretched photos with tilt-shift–would the most hokey, poorly composed photograph suddenly become just a little bit compelling? Try it on kittens or bad family snapshots, be une artiste!
Even if it’s not as attractive as “the real thing” it still gives those without the access to such expensive equipment the opportunity to experiment with new techniques. I’m actually really surprised with how well it works.
it looks so fun! and dangerous
Real or photo-chopped, the over dramatic tilt-shift thing is goofy, and a lame gimmick.

Can you say “HDR”?
This is really a fun , ran few shots through that machine thing hehe and its great
Thanks for sharing
Cheers
It’s the level of ignorance that worries me. People go ‘oh, that’s cool’ without realising that they’re not looking at anything like the real thing.
Tilt-shift maker doesn’t make fake tilt-shift images, it just makes fake tilt images. I don’t get the feeling that people even understand what tilt-shift lenses can actually do – i.e. you can rotate the area that’s in focus for example. This is really just the first cousin of faking bokkeh with blur in Photoshop.
Just another way to have no idea about photography or the history of it.
Oh, my Hasselblad Flexbody does a much better tilt.
looks rubbish
Oh i think your all being a bit unfair.
The script is really poor on that site and doesn’t produce very nice results.
But I have seen good results with photoshop.
I think the point is most people cant afford a proper tilt shift camera, or to shoot 4×5, or medium format, or medium format digital.
It just making photography that bit more accessible.
What, photoshop is making photography more accessible?? Ok…
What the Hasselblad slinging photography snobs here are trying to say is that if you can’t afford to buy every new piece of equipment and glass that is available, you are a gimmicky, underclass hayseed, who has no right to even touch an SLR camera.

Yeah, I took my Photoshop out on the street recently and did a cool photo story…
That’s what we’re up against and it will worsen….
I like the effect, it is like a drug playing with the effects and I dont give a monkey’s about what tools others think I should and should not use. Excuse me while I torture my photo collection on tiltshiftmaker dot com!
