Felix R. Cid Is For. Real.

Felix R. Cid has been confusing me with his pictures for years, but lately the confusion has turned to a pleasant sort of perplexed awe. I first became aware of Cid when he was a student at ICP, shooting fashiony pictures of his always remarkably attractive women friends. Little has changed on that score, but now Cid creates tableaux that relate to Spanish culture and history. They’re sort of Crewdson-y, with salsa. Or maybe Jeff Wall-esque, with a dash of hot sauce.

I don’t know what I’m talking about; I just like them. If you look closely you’ll find Felix’s parents, who are game to get in on the act, as well as some Flamenco singers.

See more of Cid’s work, here.

  1. I don’t know, I’m seeing quite a bit of Philip-Lorca diCorcia in there…
