Give me your Winogrands, Jared Kushner!

I paused last night, perplexed, while finishing the New York Magazine article about Jared Kushner and his power/money. Read this little ditty from the end of the piece:
-
“Jared shows me around his sparely decorated office. His mood lifts when he points to a framed Garry Winogrand photograph of JFK that leans against the wall beside to his desk. ‘I saw this photo and was just obsessed with it,’ he says. ‘I had to buy it as part of a series. The rest are in a box.’ The photograph shows JFK from behind as he delivers his 1960 Democratic Convention speech. A television set in the foreground broadcasts JFK’s face from the front.

‘I love the juxtaposition of him looking that way and seeing him the other way. I love the glow in his face,’ Jared says with a smile. ‘I look at it all the time.”

GAH!! Good lord, rich young sir- run your newspapers into the ground, but don’t put your Winogrands in a box! Therefore, Kush, I humbly ask that you rescue those Winogrands from the sad receptacle and send them my way. I can only wonder at which gems you have. The one with the monkeys?!

Or this one? This one I love.

I do wonder which dealer saw money rolling around in your irises and made you buy 12 for 1. MoMa‘s got these. And Fraenkel Gallery. Maybe one of them.

In any case- I’d take this old man off your hands.

Or this one. He’s reminds me of Milton Waddams.

Kush, do you have the Texans?

Or the scary Utah beast?

Or even the pretty iconic beast?

Call me, JK.

  1. No comments yet on Winogrand? How times change. Among male photographers of a certain age (I’m one of them), he was a god. Maybe even God.
I wanted to shoot like him. Not much luck there. But I’m grateful to have been taught the simple truth that the easier it looks, the harder it is.
I thought that I knew his photos pretty well, but I’ve never seen Untitled, 1960, New York City, 1968, or Utah, 1964. Thanks Rachel.
