A Photography Blog

/rachel hulin

Did you get a pile of residency rejections this month? Me too! Was your long term photo project (the one on which you had pinned many of your 2009 hopes and dreams) just canceled due to swine flu? Mine too!

Wow, what a coincidence.

Luckily, we have folks like Leah Oates around, who recently sent out a cheery mailing with a very useful roster of things to apply for (get back on el caballo).  Here are some of Leah’s easy breezy pictures; her list of info follows.

Friends! I need a little assistance and I thought I might ask you to help me out.  You see: I need help doing something I am not able to do myself (picture above is an allegory of sorts).

No- I do not need a close shave. But I DO need help with this here blog. Very succinctly- I need a clever developer/designer gal or gent to help me migrate my content from this Movable Type situation into a WordPress blog. I’ve got the template all ready to go, I’ll just need a few tweaks here and there in the ‘ole CSS.

My skills oh so varied (I am great with a rifle), but sometimes these web things leave me flailing about and looking for cover.

So! Can you help me out?

What’s in it for you:

1. I will pimp you out relentlessly on this blog. Believe it or not, this thing gets a fair amount of readers, and I will tell them all about you and your prowess.

2. Cash. But a reasonable amount. We’ll talk.

3. A print of mine (ooh la la).

4. Undying gratitude.

Anyone, anyone? Bueller, etc?

Here is my requisite I’m-obsessed-with-Abe-Morell-did-I-tell-you post; I make one every couple of months, every time I see some more of his work. So here are the latest jaw-droppers:

OK, moving on from Morell- I wanted to post some of Matthew Monteith‘s pictures from his project Czech Eden. It seems like several excellent folks have made pictures here, and they always turn out rather well (check out Marni Horwitz’s work a few posts down).

ALSO- It seems like this great nation attracts a lot of nudists. Or perhaps the weather is just balmy.

Have a pleasant Monday.

winogrand-jfk.jpg

I paused last night, perplexed, while finishing the New York Magazine article about Jared Kushner and his power/money. Read this little ditty from the end of the piece:
-
“Jared shows me around his sparely decorated office. His mood lifts when he points to a framed Garry Winogrand photograph of JFK that leans against the wall beside to his desk. ‘I saw this photo and was just obsessed with it,’ he says. ‘I had to buy it as part of a series. The rest are in a box.’ The photograph shows JFK from behind as he delivers his 1960 Democratic Convention speech. A television set in the foreground broadcasts JFK’s face from the front.

‘I love the juxtaposition of him looking that way and seeing him the other way. I love the glow in his face,’ Jared says with a smile. ‘I look at it all the time.”
-

GAH!! Good lord, rich young sir- run your newspapers into the ground, but don’t put your Winogrands in a box! Therefore, Kush, I humbly ask that you rescue those Winogrands from the sad receptacle and send them my way. I can only wonder at which gems you have. The one with the monkeys?!

Or this one? This one I love.

I do wonder which dealer saw money rolling around in your irises and made you buy 12 for 1. MoMa‘s got these. And Fraenkel Gallery. Maybe one of them.

In any case- I’d take this old man off your hands.

ps. Ivanka’s a babe.

Wow, you folks just about burned me at the stake for that Dash post. You’re some tough customers- apparently you don’t like semen in your art, whaaa?

Anyway, today is breezy muggy breezy muggy, happy sad happy sad. It makes me feel like flowy curtains, deck chairs in the moonlight, impending Fall…

Good thing there are folks like Marni Horwitz and Jeff Jacobson making imagery to match my mood. Here are four from each. Enjoy.
