The only thing better than this pie chart, which appeared in The New York Times in 1913, is the title of the article:
NEARLY I5,000,000 SCHOOL CHILDREN ARE DEFECTIVES.
So awesome.
I mean, not for the children, of course. But for us to laugh at.
I found that chart on my beloved Shorpy as I was searching for a picture to print on Kodak Endura Metallic and put in my kitchen (no, I’m not a company spokesperson, I’m just infatuated.) I think I may go with this one. These kids don’t look too defective.
Though that girl in the middle totally looks like Madonna’s daughter.

Another option for my wall is this incredibly spooky and beautiful portrait of a worker at a carbon black plant. I’m not sure how that guy could not have had the cancer.

That coal worker shot is amazing. I would bet that at the time this picture was taken it did not draw a whole lot of attention. If that shot was taken yesterday, it would be on the cover of TIME.
