Rebecca Greenfield: Quinceañeras.

| More

I’m very much drawn to all things teenage lately, perhaps because I am completely confused by what a teenager is now. Until recently I sort of considered myself a 19-year-old, but now I’m elderly and the Mileys and Montanas are way out of my range of comprehension. (I also tried to speak with swear words and general pirate banter with a 16-year-old relative this Christmas and got in t-r-o-u-b-l-e with a parental figure, so I feel not just clueless but also shamed).

What I’m leading up to is this: I love love love Rebecca Greenfield‘s new Quinceañera work. Greenfield has been working on this series for a while, and hopes it will soon be a book (me too!) She’ll be traveling to LA, Mexico and Texas soon to document more families.

Q (me): Dear Rebecca, what drew you to Quinceañeras?

A (Rebecca): The reason i’m drawn to this particular subject has everything to do with how intensely feminine it is- something I am endlessly fascinated with in all of my personal work. It’s got it all- transition from girl to woman, princess dresses, all the trappings of a wedding and more!

Awesome! Have a look-see.

  1. Wow, those are nice… That last one make you think though. At first I thought she was dancing with a short person XD
