I had a rather momentous weekend. And I tried to take the perfect picture to sum it up, but the darn auto focus on my 50mm f/1.2 didn’t quite do the job. That lens costs more than I’m going to spend on a wedding dress, and it fails me!
Or maybe it was user error.
In any case, I enjoyed making a 35mm still life; I was inspired by Grant Cornett’s work the other day.
Please let me know if you would like to photograph my wedding with a 4×5 camera. I only need like ten good pictures, that’s all I want.
Also- see the whole story of how this went down, over at my new venture with my groomfriend– You Rock, Lobster!

Mazel Tov! Guess its not going be a kosher wedding with all those lobsters
Congratulations! I would totally shoot your wedding with a 4×5. You just need to get married in Portland, OR.
I definitely would. You just need to get married on a weekday, unless you feel like paying $4K for those 10 photos.
(My assistant also is adept with LF, so there’s the 10 photos plus hundreds more option).
congrats yo!
You and the 10 pictures thing! There is no way we are letting your wedding go by uncaptured.
congrats! i’ll do it if you can supply the camera. ha.
Congrats! It wasn’t the lens that let you down – it was physics! For a shot like that, without a macro lens, you’d probably be better off with a pocket point and shoot camera (in macro mode). That’s my experience trying to get pictures of rings, anyway (and I have that lens too).
This is a great time to for me to say congratulations on the love front, and that you are entertaining, hilarious, thought-provoking, and informative. I dig your blog big time!
Congratulations Rachel! Very happy for you.
Where are you getting married and when? I shoot 4×5 with a crown graphic but prefer to recommend a good friend who shot a whole wedding on 4×5 Polaroid with a Wista field camera. He’s hardcore…
Hey Rachel…that is the most beautiful engagement announcement ever…SO glad you found your lobster…And I would totally shoot your wedding, any day of the week (with warning) and I have my own camera…might even be persuaded to do it with 8×10…
mazel tov and love
