A Photography Blog

Newest claim to fame: the lady who cuts my hair also cuts fashion photographer Craig McDean‘s hair. Isn’t that just fantastic? I found this out last week and knew I would have to do some sort of related post. But I couldn’t find any pictures of Mr. McDean’s head, so I thought instead I’d sneak up on him in the studio.

Here are two fun videos of Mr. McDean at work.

And here are some snazzy shots of Marion Cotillard pouring milk into a bottle and crawling around on the ground. You can see yet another behind-the-scenes vid of this over at Another Magazine.

Oh, and I KNOW this is what you were waiting for! Here is McDean’s infamous shoot of Megan Fox for Interview Magazine playing around with a plastic version of herself. Here are more.

Have a great weekend!

Who here was ever an unpaid intern for a photographer? OH, all of us?! Well, then we know it can be pretty awful (unless you’re working for Andy French).

A buddy of mine, Sophia, just finished her first, fabulous unpaid gig for a undeserving individual. She did not enjoy the job.

Let’s help Sophia get at least something out of this; watch her video and vote for her so she can win $500 to Macy’s for telling her worst work/intern experience.

Oh, and feel free to tell us here about YOUR worst experience. I bet there are some doozies.

PS THIS WAS NOT ANNIE LEIBOVITZ.

All these underwater shots remind me of the most popular blog post I EVER WROTE if you don’t count the one about Bill Henson.

It was about surfing photo sensation Dustin Humphrey and his incredible underwater tableaus. I found some of these again the other day and thought I’d share.

Excuse the arrows and such, they’re screengrabs.

Apple 27″ Cinema Display, you look good enough to eat.

I think this summer’s heat wave, at least for the sweltering New York folks, has created the need for extra watery delight.

And if you’re a photographer, that means taking the camera into the water with you. Who out there has done the same thing? Can you share with us your story and tell us about your camera’s housing? I want to know.

This first batch are by Gabriela Herman. Her friend Martha has a Vineyard with some beautiful water. Jealous.

And these are from Elizabeth Weinberg. This latest adventure involves a school bus and an abandoned campground and lots of swimming and s’mores. UBER JEALOUS.

Show us YOUR watery wonderland!

Telegraph has alerted me to the watchful eye and clever photography of Scott Linstead, and I’m impressed.

Photographer Scott Linstead, 33, goes to extraordinary lengths to capture these pictures in which creatures appear frozen in time. The former teacher spends up to a week arranging the lighting and phototraps which trigger the camera and flash. The human eye and reaction speed on the shutter release button are rarely quick enough to take the photos manually. Some of these pictures were taken in the wild, while others were staged on his kitchen table, in a warehouse or pet shop.

What flavor animal is this? It has quite the tongue span.

You are my favorite.

This fish spits to knock down its prey. Ingenius!

Today is shaping up to be a good day for tips on the interwebs. First, Michael Edwards told me about this rather applicable-to-everyone-I-know-and-love video, and then, Jon Feinstein told me and Facebook about these ads, which are upsetting and strange.

But also interesting, as they are shot by Julia Fullerton-Batten. Her other work about mothers and children is a bit more…. nurturing. See below.
