Tulips on a Scanner and Sand in the Living Room.

| More

I hate it when I go to the beach and then for weeks afterward there’s sand in the bed. You just can’t get rid of it. So it must be REALLY galling to have sand in your house like this.

Lanzarote/Barcelona-based photographer Alvaro Sanchez-Montañes has been documenting houses that over time have been invaded by sand in the Namib desert.

They’re a little bit amazing.

And since we’re on a flower/nature kick this week, I thought I’d share the scanner creations of Carmen van den Eyne. Sort of like updated photograms.

  1. I wonder if he got sand in his camera? Whenever you get a few grains of sand around the rim of your lens, you just know that they are there forever, don’t you?

I also wonder how the people felt when they got back from the shops and found that he had bulldozed all that sand into their living rooms, and that the family cat had disappeared?

PS Congratulations. I hope that you have a long and happy marriage.

  2. Ace project, SUCH a shame about the footprints all over the sand ‘dunes’, sort of ruins the natural nature of the process happening within a man made structure :-(

  3. Hey, Rachel – I was surprised to see the photographer’s name next to the sand houses, I was expecting it to be Freeman Patterson, the Canadian photographer who’s been shooting houses like these since the eighties or early nineties!

Have a look at http://www.freemanpatterson.com/giclees_odysseys.htm – see what I mean?
