Need a Lift? Call Thomas and Mole.

I came across some conceptual wartime imagery last night, and I thought I’d share. Seems that from 1915-1920, it was all the rage to assemble your military unit to resemble a patriotic symbol and boost everyone’s spirits. The leaders of this phenomenon were the photo duo Thomas and Mole.

Randy Olson, The Kamchatka Peninsula, and Nat Geo.

When I was a kid I was very seriously obsessed with becoming a photographer for National Geographic. And I wasn’t alone. This was an appealing career trajectory for many of my friends too; it was dangerous and glamorous and involved animals and deserts and saturated palettes and such. Alas I am not in the Amazon this month, so I am living vicariously through Randy Olson and his pictures of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Take a look. Make sure to note all the caviar sitting around, in ENORMOUS PILES. Also there is a dog that walks on two legs, and a strongman.

Andy and Jarrett Make Pretty Things.

Oh, Andy Adams. I miss a few weeks of Flak Photo and I go back to see what’s happening and the image above me greets me. Good grief, the beauty is too much. This one’s by Jarrett Murphy, and is called Route 531, Spencerport, New York, 2008.

Christopher Anderson and the Delicious Foods

Short list of things I love, off the top of my head:
photography
lobster
cheese
sasha obama
glitter
planets
riflery
astronaut ice cream
Seeing as four out of eight of my my favorite things (1/2!) involve food and photography, I appoint myself an expert on food photography.
